AJS 1939

The AJS V4 was a late-1930s British Grand Prix racer, using a 500cc supercharged, water-cooled V4 producing around 55 bhp.

Technically advanced but difficult to handle, it struggled in pre-war competition against BMW and Gilera. Despite this, it showed strong pace, notably at the 1939 Ulster GP.

It achieved its only victory post-war in 1946 with Jock West, before supercharging was banned.
