The Honda NS500, introduced in 1982, was a 499cc two-stroke V3 Grand Prix machine, developed as a lighter alternative to rival four-cylinder bikes.
Producing around 120 bhp, it prioritised agility and usable power over outright peak output. The compact engine and reduced weight improved handling, supported by a twin-spar frame and race-focused suspension.
Ridden by Freddie Spencer, it won the 1983 500cc World Championship, proving the effectiveness of Honda’s three-cylinder approach.
